Striae or known to most folks as stretch marks are scars that form on the skin. They often appear initially as red, uneven lines on the skin. Formed in skin layer known as the dermis, stretch marks form when the skin stretches beyond its limit. In men, most stretch marks are caused by weightlifting or a rapid weight gain. There is no difference in the treat of stretch marks when it comes to gender. Despite whatever treatment you decide to use, understand that stretch marks are difficult to completely eradicate from the skin. However, you can do things to help them heal and fade so they are not as noticeable.

  • Steps to Help Men Get Rid of Stretch MarksObserve and alter your weightlifting routine. If you notice you are building muscle quicker than your skin can catch up, it’s time to change your routine. Get lean muscles by doing more reps with lighter weights, this will promote the aesthetics of lean muscles.
  • Maintain your diet. Along with observing your lifting routine you need to be diligent with your diet as well. Gaining fat along with muscles is a recipe for stretch marks. It is ideal to replace the fat you loss with muscle.
  • Speak with your doctor about getting a prescription cream. Some over the counter creams may not have any effect on your stretch marks. Speak with your dermatologist to see if you can be given a prescription for a pharmaceutical cream that has more effective ingredients. There are some creams that will only work if the stretch marks are treated within a certain time frame, usually before they are fully healed. If you do happen to get the cream, follow the directions closely and you will see a difference in the matter of a few weeks.
  • Steps to Help Men Get Rid of Stretch MarksConsider laser treatment. Laser treatments are effective to help fade stretch marks. There are treatments that will stimulate the melanin in your skin (what makes your skin tone) and that can cause your stretch marks to be the same color, which in turn makes it much less noticeable. There are also other laser treatments which can help to promote and stimulate the collagen and elastin in your skin. This will help create new skin over the scar tissue of the stretch marks. You will be required to take several trips before you see any improvements.
  • Try microdermabrasion. This treatment will use tiny crystal fragments that are crushed finely onto your targeted areas. The crystals will slough off dead skin cells and promote blood flow to the area. Once the crystals are used, they are removed and a fresh layer of skin will be revealed. This rejuvenates the skin and also promotes the growth of new skin cells which can help fade the stretch marks.

As with any medical treatment, it’s best to speak with your physician. It is also a good idea for you to do your research as to what type of treatment you want to get done for your stretch marks. Again, stretch marks are never fully avoidable; but with diligence and careful monitoring you can reduce your chances of getting them.
